IELTS ESSAY TIPS
- WHERE SHOULD I GIVE MY OPINION?
When you are asked to give your opinion on an IELTS essay, you can write your opinion at the beginning OR at the end.
If you give your opinion at the beginning, then you will write it in the introduction.
If you give your opinion at the end, then you will write it in the conclusion.
- HOW DO I WRITE ABOUT BOTH VIEWS?
‘View’ means opinion. When the essay question tells you to write about both views, this means you must talk about both opinions from the essay question. (See the essay question below for an example.) The best way to write about both views is to write about the first opinion in one paragraph and the second opinion in a different paragraph.
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic:
It is generally believed that the Internet is an important modern resource. However, some people suggest that the Internet may not be the best place to find information. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.
You should write at least 250 words.
Paragraph 1 – Introduction
Paragraph 2 – Internet is an important resource.
Paragraph 3 – Internet may not be the best place to find information.
Paragraph 4 – Conclusion
Incredible developments in the field of information technology have revolutionized the way we gather and share information. The internet has emerged as one of the most important tools of communication and information sharing over the past two decades. However, despite the wealth of knowledge available on the Internet, it has been argued that the internet is not the best place to find information.
The internet is, undeniably, a treasure trove of information. It has become a convenient place to access and share knowledge. Nowadays, facts and information can be accessed with the click of mouse. For example, if a person wants to know which hotels are available in a certain city, he or she can get this information from the internet in minutes. This is in sharp contrast to the past, when finding relevant and useful information was a difficult and time-consuming task.
Despite the immense popularity of the internet, some people doubt the validity of information that is so freely-available. It is argued that much of the information on the internet is not reliable. For instance, many people post information to further their own agendas. For this reason, they may only share information that supports their own point of view and ignore important facts. Moreover, the internet is overloaded with information, and it takes time and effort to go through it. This can make it difficult for a person to get balanced and relevant information.
Many people rely on the internet as an important source of information for school, business and personal purposes. However, there are possible drawbacks to doing this. In my opinion, people should not ignore the internet as a source of information. Nonetheless, we must use our judgment when deciding which information to use and which to discard.
