“I feel sad, but I shouldn’t. Who can expect to live a life like that?” he told the newspaper.
“They went out together,” he added.
Sam mentioned that after celebrating Thanksgiving as a family, his mother became ill and was put in hospice care.
While visiting her on Nov. 25, Hubert also fell ill and was admitted, Sam shared.
After being unconscious for days in the same room, Sam said that his father passed away from a “broken heart.”
Hubert and June were both born in July 1922 and got married on June 8, 1943.
Reflecting on their long-lasting love, the couple previously stated that avoiding arguments was one key to their lasting bond.
“We’ve never had one quarrel,” Hubert told WLWT.
“If there’s controversy, you might have to walk away for a couple minutes,” he noted during a separate interview with Today. “Then you come back in and change the subject or you work it out.”
Their daughter Jo also mentioned that the couple “hold hands and say goodnight to each other” every night.
