UK rapper Pa Salieu sentenced to prison after involvement in fatal brawl

Pa Salieu, the British rapper, has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for his part in a mob attack on a 23-year-old man, which occurred shortly after his best friend was fatally stabbed.

Salieu confessed to committing violent disorder after being captured on CCTV using a tree branch to repeatedly strike the victim, who spent ten days in the hospital.

Although the jury acquitted the BRIT Award-nominated artist of a second count of violent disorder related to a mass brawl that led to the death of 21-year-old Fidel Glasgow, he was found guilty of possessing a bottle as an offensive weapon, claiming he used it for self-defense.

Mr. Glasgow.

No one has been charged with Mr. Glasgow’s murder, despite extensive investigations into the disorder following a music event at Coventry’s Club M in the early hours of September 1, 2018.

During sentencing, Judge Peter Cooke criticized Salieu for his actions, emphasizing the dangers of acting with a pack mentality and engaging in mass disorder.

‘If you do that somebody is likely to end up seriously injured or dead. What happened to Fidel could have happened to anyone in that melee,’ the judge declared.

Prosecutor Oliver Weetch stated that stabbing victim Ikemefuna Okosisi-Ezeanyika, known as Bobby, was pursued by a group, including Salieu, following the incident that led to Mr. Glasgow’s death. Mr. Okosisi-Ezeanyika suffered a brain injury and a stab wound to his side, necessitating intensive care and emergency surgery.

Salieu’s defense barrister, Jonathan Woodcock, offered mitigation, acknowledging Salieu’s loss of a friend and disputing the severity of his actions during the brawl.

The court also heard that Salieu still has shrapnel in his body from a previous shooting incident in 2019.

Despite acknowledging the impact of the proceedings on Salieu’s career, Judge Cooke imposed a total sentence of 27 months for violent disorder and six months for the possession of an offensive weapon, to be served consecutively. He also encouraged Salieu to focus on making the most of his talents and getting his life back on track after serving his sentence.

Judge Cooke also took into account Salieu’s relationship with Mr. Glasgow and his efforts to assist people from disadvantaged backgrounds as mitigating factors in the sentencing.
