INEC's Collaboration with Liberia: Insights from Yakubu
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has shared his reflections on the past collaborations between INEC and its Liberian counterpart.
During an event where he was honored by the Liberian National Electoral Commission (NEC), Yakubu highlighted INEC Nigeria’s assistance during Liberia’s 2017 Presidential election.
Specifically, he emphasized the joint efforts of IT experts from INEC and NEC-Liberia in addressing stakeholders’ concerns regarding the voters’ register.
Yakubu also noted INEC’s technical support ahead of subsequent Special elections, the 2020 referendum facilitated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the implementation of the biometric register in the recent general election.

Underlining the significance of inter-EMB collaboration, Yakubu stressed the complexity of election management and urged prioritizing peer support amid limited resources and escalating election costs.
The event also marked the dedication of a Workspace for staff, officiated by Prof. Yakubu at the invitation of Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, Chairperson of NEC Liberia.
