Approval of New Soun of Ogbomoso Divides Opinions
The selection of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso land has been met with mixed reactions.
Ogbomoso, the second largest city in Oyo State with five local government areas, had its vacant stool filled after the passing of Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi on December 12, 2021.
Governor Seyi Makinde announced the approval of Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola.
Makinde extended his congratulations to the new Soun-elect and urged the indigenes of the city to work together with the monarch to continue the achievements of his ancestors.

Those who oppose the selection have called on the governor to reconsider.
Members of the Olaoye family, in particular, expressed their disapproval, claiming that the selection was not supported by the entire family and that a case challenging the decision is currently pending in court.
On the other hand, the Mogaji of Olaoye family, Mr. Amos Olaoye, supported the governor’s decision and appealed to the dissenting members to exercise patience and support the new Soun-elect.
Similarly, a former Secretary of Ogbomoso Parapo, Mr. Amos Ajekigbe, declared that the kingmakers followed the proper procedure and that various groups and associations in the town are in support of the selection.
Despite the differing opinions, the appointment stands and Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye assumes the role of the new Soun of Ogbomoso.
