Turkish basketball player, Nilay Aydogan found dead among the rubble following devastating earthquake
The tragic news of Turkish basketball player Nilay Aydogan’s death has been confirmed by the country’s basketball federation. Aydogan, who played for Cankaya University, was visiting her grandmother in Malayta when the earthquake struck, causing the collapse of their apartment building. The federation expressed deep sadness at her passing and extended condolences to her family and the basketball community.
Aydogan had a career playing for various teams in Turkey, including Osmaniye, Yalova, and Mersin in the Turkish second division. She had also represented the country’s youth teams earlier in her career. Her final game for Cankaya was a victory against Hatayspor just days before the earthquake.
Tragically, Aydogan is not the only athlete to have lost their life in the earthquake. The earthquake has resulted in devastating loss of life and displacement, with many settlements and cities left in ruin.
