“Hurt but grateful”: Filmmaker Biodun Stephen Shares Emotions of Her Mother’s Murder

Biodun Stephen, a popular Nigerian filmmaker, has opened up about the murder of her mother by a drunk driver.

In a series of tweets, the award-winning film director revealed that she recently passed by the location where her mother was killed and noticed that although much had changed, the building that the car crashed into still stood, albeit with a different color. Despite the lingering pain, Stephen expressed gratitude for her journey thus far.

Reflecting on the tragic incident, Stephen recounted how 23 years ago, her mother was struck and killed by a drunk driver who managed to escape prosecution:

“Today, I drove past the spot where my dear mother was killed. Much has changed, but the car that rammed into her still stands, just with a different color. I am hurt, but grateful for the progress I have made. Twenty-three years ago, a drunk driver killed my mother, and justice was not served.”
