Soun of Ogbomoso's coronation begins with N150m empowerment
The commencement of the coronation of the 21st Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, in Oyo State has kicked off with a N150 million empowerment program for 102 beneficiaries at the palace in Ogbomoso. The official presentation of the Staff of Office to Oba Olaoye by the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
The beneficiaries, who were selected from the five Local Governments comprising Ogbomosoland – Ogo-Oluwa, Surulere, Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, and Oriire – received various items, including sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, deep freezers, motorcycles, generators, and hair dryers.
The empowerment initiative is part of the seven-day activities planned for the coronation of Oba Olaoye. In his address, Oba Olaoye emphasized his vision for the comprehensive development of Ogbomosoland, expressing a commitment to collaborating with non-governmental organizations for further development. He stressed that the presentation of business tools to the 102 beneficiaries should be seen as a means to support their businesses, not as mere gifts, and warned that anyone found selling these business tools would face arrest and prosecution by the police.
