Buddhist Temple Devastated as All Monks Test Positive for Meth

In Thailand, a small Buddhist temple has been deserted by its monks after they all were found to have methamphetamine in their systems.

During a surprise inspection on Monday, Nov. 28, the four religious leaders were subjected to a drug test by the local council, revealing their drug use.

Additionally, four other monks in the Phetchabun province were also found to have traces of methamphetamine in their tests.

All eight individuals were admitted to Bueng Sam Phan Hospital for rehabilitation.

Concerns have arisen among the local worshippers about the continuity of their religious activities at the temple.

Sompong Thongnoonui, the Bueng Sam Phan district council chief, has assured the public that an interim abbot will be appointed to maintain the regular religious practices.

Efforts are underway by the authorities to apprehend the individuals who supplied the drugs to the temples.

The ongoing testing of monks will continue as part of the police efforts.
