Benjamin Mendy takes legal action against Man City for unpaid wages following suspension of his £100k-per-week pay during legal battles
Benjamin Mendy, the former player of Manchester City, is taking legal action against the club for unpaid wages.
The French defender faced allegations of raping a 24-year-old woman in October 2020 and attempted rape of a 29-year-old woman two years prior. He consistently denied both charges and was acquitted by the jury at Chester Crown Court earlier this year.

It is reported that the claim has been submitted to the Employment Tribunal, with Mendy alleging ‘unauthorized deductions from wages’ during his legal proceedings.
Mendy, who became the most expensive defender in the Premier League when City acquired him for £52million from AS Monaco in 2017, was contracted with the club until June 2023. He is now seeking the owed salary from September 2021 until the expiry of his contract.
According to Sky Sports, the prominent sports lawyer Nick De Marco KC is representing Mendy in this matter.
A statement provided to Sky mentioned: ‘Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offences all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal.’
Louis Doyle KC, representing Mr Mendy, stated last month that discussions with Man City were ongoing, indicating a potential resolution to the dispute.
Meanwhile, Mr Mendy’s accountant, David Lumley, previously estimated the owed amount to be ‘in the order of nine to 10 million pounds gross’.
