Tragic Incident: Nurse Opens Up About Postpartum Anxiety Before Harming Children

A mother from Massachusetts has been charged with strangling her two young children and attempting to harm her infant after admitting to struggling with her mental health following childbirth.

Lindsay Clancy, 32, allegedly committed the acts at her home in Duxbury on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

She had previously shared her postpartum anxiety battle on Facebook in July 2022, several months prior to the tragic incident.

Just six weeks after giving birth to her third child, the mother of three posted again about feeling “dialed in” once more.

According to sources, authorities are considering the possibility that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

Clancy, a labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, allegedly took the lives of her daughter, Cora, 5, and her son, Dawson, 3, and attempted to harm her 8-month-old son.

She remains hospitalized after jumping out of a second-floor window at her Summer Street home, about 35 miles southeast of Boston, in an attempted suicide, as stated by authorities.

Clancy is facing two counts of murder, three counts of strangulation or suffocation, and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to officials.

After Clancy’s husband, Patrick, made a 911 call, firefighters found their three children “unconscious, with obvious signs of trauma,” officials reported.

Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead at a hospital, while the infant boy, who turned 8 months old on Thursday, Jan. 19, was flown to Boston Children’s Hospital and remains hospitalized.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz expressed his empathy for the family, acknowledging the depth of pain they must be experiencing and refrained from providing information about a potential motive.
