The IELTS writing test comprises two text types: IELTS Academic writing and IELTS General Training writing. Both tests are designed to evaluate your English language skills on paper to conclude your writing proficiency level.

IELTS Academic Writing

1. Format

In Task 2, the student must write an essay responding to a specific perspective, argument, or problem.

The total time of the test is 60 minutes; there is no acceptance of any delays. Ideally, the student must use their time effectively: 20 minutes only on Task 1 and 40 minutes on Task 2. There is no constraint of time on each task, so how you divide your time is eventually your own decision
3. Marks
Both tests are worth the same marks and are evaluated by an expert Ilets examiner. The results are given in whole and half bands.
IELTS General Training writing
The other section is a test evaluating your general knowledge and interests.
1. Format
All topics selected in this exam cater to general interests. This section also has two tasks: In task 1, you will be given concern, and you will write a letter asking for details or describing the issue. You can write the letter in three formats: personally, semi-formal, or formal style. Task 2 requires an essay that responds to an argument or problem written on the paper. Unlike the first writing section, you can use a personal format in this task.
2. Timings
Similar to the first section, you will be given 60 minutes in total, so ideally, you are required to provide 20 minutes to Task 1 and 40 minutes to Task 2. Again, there is no restriction on timings, but you are advised to use your time efficiently.
3. Marks
Both tests are worth the same marks and are evaluated by an expert IELTS examiner. The results are given in whole and half bands.
